“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” – Dale Carnegie, How to Win Friends and Influence People
This quote has been repeated over and over, from books to newspapers, to podcasts. Yet, it seems to allude a lot of people…like a lot. The question always comes up, what does that mean and how do I do that. Forbes had a great article breaking this down. The seven pillars for making a connection with another person, according to that article are:
- Be genuine.
- Provide massive help.
- Pay ridiculous attention.
- Connect with people close to them.
- Persistence wins most battles.
- Make real friends.
- Remain unforgettable.
Now we know these are super easy to figure out and implement…ish…not really. So we will break down what each one means, in far more detail than this article does, in order to clarify it, at least from our perspective. Whether you agree with our assessment or not, at the very least, you’ll have an additional perspective.
